Perbedaan Common Noun and Proper Noun

Dalam bahasa inggris, kata benda sering kita sebut noun. Ada berbagai macam jenis-jenis kata benda yang sering kita sebut dalam bahasa Inggris. Mereka adalah, Common noun, Proper noun, Countable, Uncountable noun, Abstract noun, Collective noun. Dalam kesempatan ini penulis akan menjelaskan masing-masing nouns tersebut.

Namun pada kesempatan ini, saya akan menjelaskan tentang Common Noun dan Proper Noun.

1.      Common noun

Common noun merupakan nama-nama benda yang sering kita lihat, pegang, gunakan, rasakan, atau juga yang sering kita dengar. Berikut ini contoh dalam bahasa Inggrisnya.

Dog, window, cat, box, glass, house, carpet, pillow, vase, table, roof, stone, leaves, root, trunk. Dan masih banyak yang lainnya.

Untuk pemahaman lebih lanjut, mari kita perluas lagi kata-kata benda di atas langsung dengan membuat kalimatnya ke dalam bahasa Inggris.

Dog                  : My father loves a dog.

Window           : Mr. Tom is opening the window of his house        

Cat                   : I see a cat in front of your house.

Box                  : I use the blue glass to drink.

House              : My house is very big.

Carpet             : There is a carpet on the floor.

Pillow              : Tono uses a big pillow to lay his head on the bed.

Vase                : A red rose keeps in beautiful vase.

Table               : I write a letter on that table.

Roof                 : The store sells a colorful roof.

Stone               : There are big stones around my house.

Leaves             : Mango leaves look yellow.

Root                 : The root of the coconut tree is very long.

Trunk               : One of the trunks is being cut by the gardener.

Berdasarkan beberapa contoh di atas, dalam penulisannya common noun ditulis dengan huruf kecil (small letter).

2.      Proper noun

Proper noun merupakan nama-nama khusus benda seperti nama orang, tempat. Beberapa contoh nama orang, seperti John, Sandi, Reni, Anton dan lain-lain. Kemudian untuk nama-nama tempat seperti nama daerah, kota, provinsi, Negara, benua, desa, kabupaten. Selainitu, proper noun bisa kita jumpai pada berbagai macam tulisan, seperti nama judul buku, nama-nama hari, bulan. Dalam penulisan, yang dimaksud dengan proper noun yaitu kita menulis nama-nama tersebut dengan menggunakan huruf besar bukan huruf kecil.

Dari contoh-contoh di atas dapat kita gunakan langsung untuk membuat kalimat. Berikut ini contoh dalam bentuk kalimatnya:

1.      John is an engineer in Sugar Group Companies.

2.      Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia.

3.      There is a city in East Java that is Surabaya.

4.      On Monday, the students of Senior High school are conducting a ceremony.

5.      In January, Mr. Brown wants to go to Yogyakarta City.

6.      I have an inspiring novel; the title of the novel is Sepatu Dahlan.

7.      American Continent was found by AmerigoVespuci.
