Exposition Text dan Contohnya
An exposition is a text that presents a point of view. The
writer tries to persuade or convince the reader of his/her point of view. For
example an exposition of films or book just reviews one point of view the
writers. In other expositions such as letters to the forum page, in debate
discussion, the writer presents not only his/her own opinion, but also
acknowledges other points of view.
Sebuah teks eksposisi
mempersembahkan suatu sudut pandang atau pendapat. Penulis berusaha mengajak
pendapat dia sendiri tetapi mengenali banyaknya pendapat lain.
In the table below is given the grammatical feature and the
example. Take a look!

|
To write exposition text, we should include the following:
1. An introductory paragraph or statement
that gives an idea of the argument that will follow. (pernyataan yang membeikan suatu ide
terhadap argumennya)
2. A series of
arguments that tend to persuade the reader, the arguments may consist of
both facts and opinion, and some
arguments may have subheadings (berisikan argument yang tujuannya untuk
mengajak pembaca, bisa dengan secara fakta maupun pendapat)
3. A conclusion to sum up the argument and to emphasize our
opinion once again (berisikan kesimpulan dari beberapa argument yang ditulis dan berfungsi
untuk menekankan pendapat yang ditulis. Agar pendapat maupun fakta yang ditulis
terpercaya bagi pembaca)
To make clear the explanation above, the writer would give
example of exposition text.
A Solution Needed for
Pollution
(1). Introductory paragraph (gives an
idea of the arguments that follow)
Pulau Ubin is plagued by an incessant pest pollution/ Today,
with tourism and the development of the island, pollution is fast becoming a
serious problem, threatening to ruin this beautiful isle of tranquility. Pulau Ubin
is being attacked by all forms of pollution-land, air, water and noise! We must
recognize the severity of the pollution problem and take immediate steps to
save Pulau Ubin.
(2) series of arguments (aims to persuade the audience with facts and
opinion)
(Argument 1) Land pollution has created health
hazards and has tarnished the beauty of Pulau Ubin to a great extent. A tour of
the island reveals litter all around. Indeed, littering by the locals and
tourists, and the extremely improper disposal of sewage are two primary causes
of land pollution on the island.
(Argument 2) Water pollution adds to the pollution
problem largely because there poor sanitation and indiscriminate littering. Not
only is this an unpleasant sight, the flora and the fauna on the island also
suffer greatly when aquatic plants and animals die due to the contaminated
water.
(Argument 3) Air
and noise pollution have also taken a toll on Pulau Ubi, thus further
threatening the future of the island. Air pollution occurs mainly because of
the poisonous exhaust fumes from vehicles, ships and machines in the quarry.
Noise pollution is caused mostly by vehicles like scooters traveling on the
island.
Conclusion (sum up arguments
and re- emphasize writer’s opinion)
Pulau Ubin is in great danger because of pollution largely
caused by our actions. It is up to each and every one of us to do our part to
save our natural environment. We need to act now in order to save it. Can we
count on you?
