Exercises to Develop Writing Skills

Hi dear. 

We notice that teaching writing is challenging.  I experienced when i was teaching in one of high schools in Indonesia. However, there are some exercises that can develop our students' writing skills. 

1. Using a jumbled paragraph. (This involves knowledge of the rhetorical development of ideas as well as of the linguistic signals which indicate this relationship)

2. Editing a suitable passage. You can give a text to your students, then ask them to edit it. Let them to read and to understand it. Then, they paraphrase with their own language. 

3. Analyzing a model text which exemplifies a particular discourse pattern, and writing another passage on the basis of the model. (genre approach). 

4. Writing for fantasy; creative thinking; problem-solving.
